Great day trip from Denver. The South side is closed. They are raising the dam, so that side will be closed for approximately 5 years. The north side is open. And they have access to the reservoir from there. They have a shuttle if you have paddle boards. You can bring your dogs just make sure they don't go into the water.

We went here on a Saturday mid morning in August and it was not busy at all. You can stand up paddle board, kayak and canoe here but there is no swimming allowed.
There is currently construction on the dam that you can hear all around the lake. We were told that the dam project will take 5 years.
The park is free! They also have a shuttle that takes your paddle boards and kayaks down to the water for you which is great because there is a decent walk down to the water. There’s a short hike along the water that was really enjoyable.

It is super magical place, you need a truck to get to the dispersed campsites, they have drive in sites and a few more where you park and walk-in or bike in... #29 was pretty magical site with some hidden gems about it including a private little flat area for a tent snuggled on the point .. lots of hammock options #24 is also pretty magical for a solo person

Amazing place to hike around with friends or enjoy nature alone. I'm a big off trail hiker and I must say that I've been to very free places with as many hidden visual gems that this place has. During the winter the roads can be a little tough but I've made the drive many times in my Honda Accord without ever getting stuck. Needless to say definitely one of my favorite places.

The drive here is beautiful. The road can be bumpy at times but the view is worth it. Boating (<10mph), kayaking, and sup are all great activities at this reservoir. The only downside being its used by the City of Denver's water and you cannot swim in it!

Great place for kayaking, paddle boarding. Camping is first come first serve and there are many spots but many people head out there so you are rolling the dice. I rolled out of Denver at noon on Friday hoping to get a car site...ha! I pulled up to the second lot (closest to the reservoir) and chatted with some various people who said this was full Thursday morning. But if you find a place vehicle or off site to hang Friday night you can make friends and share a site or be given someone’s site when they leave the next morning. I intended to car camp anyways so I just found a slot in the lot and was good to go for one night. Not a great place for hiking but definitely for getting out on the water. Highly recommend getting up in the middle of the night to take advantage of the little light pollution and are the amazing star-scape!!!
Getting up the road I had a 4x4 and would think it was a must but the lot was full of Subaru’s and crossovers. Heck.. a couple times I even saw a Honda Civic and other sedan drive through the lot. How they made it .... couldn’t tell you. There is a considerable amount of rutted up hill on the 30 road in with some wash board that will shake your fillings loose. But worth it. But find a place to rent a inflatable paddle board or something to make it more of a trip. Kids under 5 ... wouldn’t be my first choice.

Absolutely beautiful and amazing location for day-picnic or just sleeping ? ? in the nature. I have been here numerous times in summer and winter ?. I’d definitely recommend summer. There are several grills and picnic tables. The views are mesmerizing and never ending. The location is very quiet and peaceful. When I went there for the first time ever I thought I went to the heaven because it is an unbelievable location in the middle of no where.

They also have a beach shore. I don’t think that you’re allowed to bring your boat but I think you can kayak and paddle board. There are a lot of people fishing as well.

Definitely recommend day-picnic with family in summer time!!

Bonus: There isn’t any entry fee!!!!!!!
